their fitness and lifestyles, you would make an ideal
Nordic Walking Instructor. This simple to learn, sociable
Exercise Technique is gaining popularity throughout the
world and is so effective that it is being used by Personal
Trainers, Pilates Instructors and Health Promotion initiatives
all over the UK.
About
Nordic Walking
Nordic
Walking was originally devised by super fit cross country
skiers as a way to keep training during the summer when
there was no snow. It soon became evident that this simple
but effective activity could be used to improve the mobility
and fitness of everyone from other sportsmen to the extremely
unfit.
Not
to be confused with 'trekking', Nordic Walking is an enhancement
of ordinary walking where the use of poles helps to tone
and strengthen the upper body as well as the legs - it
increases the heart rate and has the following benefits:-
However,
it is not simply a case of grabbing a pair of poles and
swinging your arms about! Nordic walking requires the
correct technique in order to incorporate 90% of the skeletal
muscles of the body and to increase the calories burned.
The
specially designed Exel poles are used in order to facilitate
the action and to fully impact the whole body - they also
allow people to work harder than they usually do without
feeling it!
Nordic
Walking is the ideal way for people of all ages and fitness
levels to simply get outdoors and get active!
Success
stories
Personal
Trainer Charlotte Rehn first became interested in Nordic
Walking when taking part in a Marathon in Germany. Originally
from Denmark herself, she had thought it was a uniquely
Scandinavian pastime but huge numbers of people of all
levels were using the technique in German parks and streets
and she was also struck the excellent posture of these
enthusiasts
On
her return to London, she immediately trained to be a
Nordic Walking Instructor and quickly established a base
of loyal clients who attend both one to one and group
sessions in a variety of London parks.
"I
love the adaptability of Nordic Walking" she reports,
"I can use it to help clients with MS, Osteoporosis
etc and as a cross training tool for Marathon runners
and cross country skiers". Charlotte also helped
to train Jan Meek who at 62 was the oldest woman to reach
to Magnetic North pole by foot in 2007.
Charlotte
adds, "Nordic Walking has gone from an addition to
my Personal training and Sports Massage business to a
major part of it, I love being outdoors and I call the
stunning parks 'my gym' - The sociable aspect of Nordic
Walking is a bonus too, my regulars have established quite
a network and we often get together for more challenging
walks and weekends away".
"To
be honest the best thing is how cheap it was to get going,
all you need is the correct training and poles and you're
up and 'walking' - I love it!"
